Like many long-time fans, my RuneScape journey began with RuneScape Classic—back when the graphics were clunky, the UI was basic, and the world felt absolutely massive at the time. I still remember training combat in Varrock sewers, chopping trees and setting logs on fire for hours, and the sheer satisfaction of finally affording a full set of rune armour. I stuck around through the transition to RuneScape 2, but somewhere along the way—before RuneScape 3—I drifted away.

A Nostalgic Connection That Never Really Left
Even though I never fully returned, RuneScape always stayed in the back of my mind. I’d jump in every now and then, usually during a wave of nostalgia, but nothing ever quite stuck. Life got busier, other games came along, and I assumed RuneScape would remain a fond memory—until now.
A Shadow Drop That Genuinely Surprised Me
To my absolute surprise (and genuine excitement), Jagex just shadow dropped a brand-new RuneScape game—made in Unreal Engine 5. No major buildup, no overhype—just a quiet early access launch for S$26.00. The game is called RuneScape: Dragonwilds and it takes place in a new continent called Ashenfall.

Old-School Spirit, Modern Action RPG
This new game isn’t just a visual upgrade—it plays like a modern third-person action RPG. But what really impressed me is how it still stays true to the soul of RuneScape. You’re still leveling skills like woodcutting, combat, and magic (each having a max level of 99), and it seems like almost every action contributes to skill progression. That’s always been my favourite thing about RuneScape: you never really lose progress. There’s no harsh punishment (if you don’t stray into the wilderness), no sense of regression—just slow, steady advancement at your own pace.

The Green Pants Are Back
The nostalgia hit me hard when I saw the character’s default look—that familiar yellow top and green pants from the original game. It’s a small thing, but for those of us who started in the early days, it’s a loving callback.

Not Playing Yet, But Still Watching
As much as I’d love to dive in, there’s one problem—I don’t currently have a capable Windows PC. The game isn’t available on Mac, PS5, or iOS just yet, so I’ll have to wait a little longer. In the meantime, I’ll be living vicariously through others—watching gameplay videos, keeping up with community reactions, and soaking in every bit of content I can. It’s not the same as playing, but it’s keeping the excitement alive.

Looking Forward with Hope
RuneScape has always been about patience for me, whether it’s grinding out 99 Mining or just waiting for the right moment to return. This new chapter has me more excited than I’ve been about the franchise in years—and I genuinely hope Jagex keeps pushing it forward.
