The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a worthy upgrade — better specs, bigger games, and welcomed refinements. While I’m not rushing to buy it just yet (hello, PS5), I’m genuinely excited for what it means for Switch-first gamers.
A Solid Follow-Up
So the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally official — and honestly, it looks like a decent successor. The hybrid design is still intact (which I love), and they’ve made some smart upgrades. A larger HDR display, more storage, and 4K output while docked all make this feel like a proper generational leap. It’s the kind of refinement that makes the experience better without losing what made the original Switch special.
Better Specs, Bigger Possibilities
One of the biggest wins for the Switch 2 is the hardware upgrade. With a custom Nvidia chip, rumoured 12GB of RAM, and a stronger GPU, it’s finally got the power to handle more demanding games — and that opens the floodgates for third-party titles. According to reports, over 40 third-party games are already confirmed, including some that felt impossible on the original Switch. Stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring is now within reach.
If You Only Play on Switch, You’re in for a Treat
This is huge for people who mainly play on Switch. With publishers now able (and likely eager) to port over PS4/Xbox One-era titles, there’s a lot to look forward to. Games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Split Fiction are already on the confirmed list, and that’s just scratching the surface. If Switch is your main or only console, this feels like the beginning of a great era for broader game access without sacrificing portability.
For Me Personally: I Can Wait
As for me? I’m good for now. I do most of my gaming on my PS5, and I only picked up my first Switch in 2023. For me, it’s mainly a Nintendo exclusives machine — think Pokémon, Zelda, Mario Kart. And for that purpose, my current Switch still holds up just fine.
That said, I’m definitely keeping an eye on the Switch 2. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll grab one — ideally during a sale or when bundles start popping up with games I actually want. No FOMO here… yet.
Final Thoughts: Great News for the Nintendo Crowd
All things considered, the Switch 2 seems like a great step forward. It doesn’t need to be a PS5 or Xbox Series X — it just needs to do what the Switch does best, but better. And from what we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to do exactly that. I’m happy for longtime Switch fans, and I’ll probably join in eventually.
